Bring The Pooch's verdict

A picturesque country pub that's actually situated in the heart of Durham. It's country feel is thanks to the surrounding woodland of Flass Vale, lending it a quiet and scenic feel, despite having very easy access to the busy and bustling centre of Durham. With rooms to rent, this is a fantastic place to stay as well.

In terms of the restaurant, it holds a Gold Star Award from the AA guidebook, meaning you can trust you'll always have a great meal there. The menu is very seasonal, and changes all the time, using only the freshest ingredients at every time of the year. However, it typically consists of classic gastropub style food. Steak and ale pies, seabass, pan-roasted chicken breast and beer battered fillets of fish are common inclusions on the menu. There's a great range of drinks on offer too. This place is exceedingly dog friendly and gets a huge thumbs up from us, and paws up from the pooches.
